i4designer for the first time at the SPS IPC Drives 2018!



WEBfactory presents its open web platform i4designer for the development of SCADA and HMI applications with HTML5 for the first time at Europe's largest trade fair for industrial automation technologies.

The control and monitoring of machines and plants increasingly takes place via smartphones, tablets or directly from a browser. Proprietary SCADA and HMI solutions have therefore been losing importance for some time and the trend is towards solutions that are 100 percent based on HTML5. In order to create such HTML5 applications, in-depth programming knowledge of HTML5 is required.

Thus, with i4designer, we have developed a fully graphical, cloud-based engineering platform to build SCADA and HMI applications that are 100 percent HTML5 based. SCADA and HMI applications created with i4designer are modular. This modular design allows i4designer to be used as a graphical engineering tool for all SCADA and HMI applications on the market.


The i4designer comes with a symbol library with more than 500 standard symbols, which are used for visualisation projects. The symbols can be positioned, aligned and adjusted via drag & drop. The current live process values are displayed immediately during project engineering, either from the target system or from a simulation. The symbol library can easily be extended by customer-specific symbols.

Master templates can be created, which can be copied to other projects with just a few clicks. Thus, projects can also be created automatically with almost zero engineering effort.

Project Management.

With each i4designer application, a GIT repository is also provided for project management. In addition, a customer's own GIT repository can be used to keep the project data in the private repository.

In the integrated source code management, all changes to the projects are immediately recorded and older versions can be restored very easily if required.

The cloud solution allows different users to work on the same project and avoids version chaos, as all users always have the latest version in front of them.

Deployment and Licensing.

As soon as the visualisation is finished, the project files must be transferred to the target system. How this is done depends solely on the possibilities supported by the target system. The project files can be transferred both online and offline, e.g. via FTP.

For applications with many installations, the visualizations can also be transferred automatically and time-controlled.

Each user pays a monthly usage fee depending on the required functions. In addition, the number of tags is licensed for each project that is transferred to the target system. Tag packages can be purchased in advance at attractive prices and then used in any number of projects. The tag packages can be purchased in the webstores of various hardware manufacturers such as Beijer and Phoenix Contact.
